People's Deputy, the Party of Regions parliamentary faction member, Minister of Fuel and Energy of the Opposition government Yuriy Boyko in his report at a round table on "The Energy Security and Role of Ukraine in the EU Power Policy", which is taking place today in Brussels, suggested creating the "Ukraine – EU" investment fund for financial participation in projects alongside with private investors from Ukraine and the EU, "Podrobnosti" informs.
In the Party of Regions member's opinion, this step will allow Ukraine as a country with huge capabilities of electrical power export into the EU augment existent potential and will accelerate the process of Ukraine's integration into the UCTE. In turn, the European Commission's participation at the institutional level will provide investors from the EU member states with necessary guarantees of protection of their investments and will largely draw together the participants as the partners.
"Therefore, developing the strong and reliable energy economy which attracts deliveries from the East and transits them to the western consumers is a building block of the strategic agenda for our country and for our relations with the European partners", Yuriy Boyko thinks.
He said increase in capacity of Burshtynskiy energy island, reconstruction of cross-border line of electricity transmissions "Yuzhnoukrainsk power plant – Moldova hydroelectric plant – Isakch", as well as establishment of direct current insertion at Hungarian-Slovak direction are the key points of accelerating the energy systems integration process.
Trilateral relations within the framework "EU – Ukraine – Russia" also play an important role in energy security of the region. "I find difficulty in conceiving the future energy security without enhancing partnership in this format. Russia requires predictability from Ukraine to the same extent Ukraine and Europe need predictability from Russia. We acknowledge this interconnection and we are going to use it for mutual benefit", the People's Deputy pointed out.
In Yuriy Boyko's opinion, precisely active European policy would favor all sides, and specific steps in "trilateral gas-transport consortium would help attain positive results". He expressed his confidence that explicit use of Ukraine's power potential will enable to raise cooperation with the EU at a new, higher level. | |
