Yuriy Miroshnichenko: The present coalition members laid the foundation for inflation growth last year

14.03.2008, 18:58

People's Deputy, the Party of Regions parliamentary faction member Yuriy Miroshnichenko, in the air of '5th TV channel' expressed his opinion on the course of inflation processes in Ukraine. Particularly, he marked:

- Considerable inflationary expectations among the population have not been observed yet. But a fact that businessmen include risks in a price is an outcome of the failed governmental policy. Prices for energy carriers are unknown, risks of these prices increase are exacerbating, the governmental tax and credit policy are unpredictable. This is a biased factor that makes a producer include his risks in a price for commodities or services.

We are not enemies of the government, we are its opponents. We try to protect from inflation both our voters and all citizens of Ukraine. We claim that profits of socially vulnerable layers of the population correspond to the existing inflation rates. We say that the government should compensate inflation losses to socially vulnerable layers of the population, and create proper conditions for the industry.

The production should be promoted primarily. And here cheaper credits should be provided so that the prime cost was higher. The authority should strive for cutting gas, oil and energy supplies prices. The domestic manufacturer should be protected, their competitiveness should be boosted, primarily on overseas markets. The volume of commodities and services should be increased, whilst money supply should be constrained. When commodities volume compared to money supply is sufficient, then goods and services may be purchased regardless inflation.

The investments should be made in the production sector, in case of need. For example, as for agriculture, I will remind that a draft budget of Viktor Yanukovych Government stipulated over six billion hryvnias for supporting the agrarian sector. By the way, the present government abolished these investments.

In its time Viktor Yanukovych Government introduced a long-term governmental program of investment-innovative economy growth, effective anti-inflationary tools being provided for. Unfortunately, they did not have time to implement it. In fact, V.Yanukovych Government had worked under relatively stable political conditions only for a few months. Hardly had the anti-crisis coalition been formed, processes directed at undermining the state of affairs, at originating the parliamentary crisis were launched, political provocations began. And at that time Viktor Yanukovych said: 'There will be negative impact on the economy, there will be inflation'.

The economy has inertia, and inflation began to grow at the end of last year. And this time the present coalition members who had laid the foundation for this spurge last year, inherited inflation growth.

We are going to criticize the government, but we are not going to prevent it from carrying out anti-inflationary measures. Meanwhile we remind that the government should fight the inflation not through declarative methods, but through market and administrative ones. We are not going to create conditions for the Tymoshenko government dismissal artificially. The question could be discussed only if due to this Cabinet's actions the situation in the country runs beyond the national security framework.
